The MED Sustainable Tourism Community @“ECOMONDO: the green technologies expo” Rimini, Italy, 6-9 November 2018

Together with five other Interreg MED Communities the MED Sustainable Tourism Community will be at the ECOMONDO expo at the Stand 017- Pavilion D4, the biggest Italian expo on green and circular economy, between the 6th and the 9th November. The six MED Communities will be animating a series of panel discussions on the 6th November, Pavilion A6, Tiglio Room from 14:30 to 18:00.

(Rome, 17 Oct 2018) Tourism can be a strategic driver for sustainable development of the Mediterranean region as it accounts for almost 11% of its global GDP. However, to attain this objective we need a greater engagement of public and private institutions and we encourage a greater citizens participation. On its 22^ Edition, Ecomondo: the green technologies expo, will be the occasion for our MED Community to meet with different actors and stakeholders of the Green and Circular Economy, share ideas and projects, advocate and lobby for even more investment in this economic model.

This year, for the first time, six communities of the Interreg MED Programme will be there from the 6th to the 9th of November in the Stand 017 of the Pavilion D4 of the Rimini Expo Center (Rimini Fiere), in Rimini, Italy. The afternoon of the 6th November in the Tiglio Room of the Pavilion A6 of the Expo Center, the Communities will organise an open conference from 14:00 to 18:00.

The MED Communities decided to join forces to promote a common message “Empowering territories for a Sustainable Mediterranean: #innovation #competitiveness #circulareconomy #sustainablelifestyle” because a sustainable development for the Mediterranean region is achievable if we succeed in making the proactive attitude of multiple stakeholders converge to tackle strategic challenges on a given territory. However, nurturing the interregional cooperation dimension is essential to share knowledge and to keep a more holistic approach to tackle global issues such as climate change, depletion of non-renewable resources, as well as land, water and sea pollution.

The Ecomondo 2018 will be the occasion to meet national, European and International stakeholders as well as private sectors major players of research and innovation, sustainable development and circular bioeconomy. It will be possible to go through news, needs, difficulties and possibilities of implementing new economic models, not only to protect what is still pristine but also to recover previously contaminated areas, or foster and widen the recycling system (getting to include even sewage, for example), and going deeper into concepts as the “bio-economy”.

The Blue Growth, Renewable Energy, Urban Transport, Sustainable Tourism, Biodiversity Protection and Green Growth Communities will find in Ecomondo a fertile space for their projects to be visible and valorised. Under the lemma “Empowering territories for the Mediterranean”, they will tease the visitors of their stand to be more curious, about not only the projects and the communities, but also to look for concrete and further developments of the Green and Circular economy issues in the Mediterranean Regions. Competitiveness, a more participative governance, circular bio-economy and innovation for sustainability in the Mediterranean region will be some of the ideas animating the panels ‘debates and leading the synergic work of these communities.
